When thinking about the past 10 years of music history, one genre has taken the back seat to the potpourri of musical stylings facilitated by the ease and convenience of desk, lap and hand-based digital production methods: Rock music. Yes Rock, Daddy’s old timey music, can you remember? Its traditional format almost seems archaic and boring when compared to the ever morphing musical sensibilities of modernity, ALMOST. If your faith in rock has wavered at all prepare to be evangelized. Tame Impala’s second-full length Lonerism is a tantric multiple-eargasm to say the least and you will be hard-pressed to find a finer release this year, in any genre.
Tame Impala’s widely acclaimed 2010 debut Innerspeaker turned heads with their acid-drenched revivalist sound that fuses the kraut-rock sensibilities of Can with doubled-tracked and filtered vocals hauntingly reminiscent of John Lennon. Lonerism continues to resurrect the seemingly retired genre of psychedelic rock while channeling 21st century production methods to create an expertly executed rock album.
Simply put, every track on Lonerism is on point. As such it can be streamed in its entirely below. If you are of the means and volition it is in your best interest to obtain this modern classic in either digital or analogue format, immediately. Before that you can watch this video of lead songwriter and frontman Kevin Parker explaining the ethos behind album quite nicely.
