Fixed Miami Ticket Give-Away

For five strong years, The Vagabond here in Miami has hosted the Fixed Miami party and it never disappoints. In the spirit of Miami Music Week, we at Nightdrive have secured a pair of tickets to give away for anyone visiting our fair city in search of good tunes and good times. The line-up speaks for itself. … MORE

Alas, we find ourselves near summer’s end but have no fear because it has been filled with a bunch of good tunes like this sumptuous Neil Young cover by the aptly named Poolside. They are a DJ duo based out of Los Angeles that create airy disco beats out of a pool house they converted into a studio. They keep it simple and in their own words attempt to capture the sound of a perfect afternoon, music they like to call “day time disco”. Harvest Moon is Poolside’s second single after last year’s Do you Believe?, in anticipation of their album being released this year.

Considering the gravity of covering one of the most prolific singer/songwriters of the 20th Century, Poolside took the tittle track of Young’s later album Harvest Moon and truly made it their own. Their interpretation is so dramatically different from the original in all the right ways, taking this somber country tune and transforming it into a laid-back disco banger, capturing the essence of a hot and lazy afternoon near a body of water, chlorinated or otherwise. Listening to their other edits and mixes one can’t help but be reminded of other Balearic-Disco acts like Aeroplane, which is never a bad thing considering I’m a sucker for tropical disco rhythms. I definitely see these guys coming on the up and up if they keep producing high quality gems like this.

Bonus: Poolside also has a sicky edit of Sade’s, “When Am I Going To Make A Living”, which I have gone ahead and linked for your aural pleasure.
