Percussion Lab | Nightdrive Miami

This Saturday will be the second time Brooklyn band Body Language takes to The Electric Pickle stage. Not out in the back like last time but you’ll be able to find them setting up shop in the newly renovated EL BOLERO ROOM (upstairs). Last time they played was back in Feb of 2010 for the Pickles’ One Year Anniversary Block Party alongside Junior Boys and Metro Area. I had originally shown up that night to catch both JBs and MA do their thing on the decks but if I remember correctly I ended up outside in the back (and staying there) watching these kids put on an amazing live performance. I kept thinking to myself over and over that one day I’d do my best to bring them back down to Miami. Just one of those bands that kinda stuck around in my head I guess. On that note – Miami, you will not be disappointed!

Here’s a little segment I like to call…

The “FIVE THINGS BODY LANGUAGE WANTS YOU TO KNOW” segment.

1. When you think Miami, whats the first thing you want to do when you land?

Angelica: Get leid by Will Smith or go swimming in the ocean.

Ian: Eat some stone crabs!

2. Tell us a little bit more about your relationship with Praveen of Percussion Lab and how he has helped you guys in your career.

Grant: Praveen is one of the guys instrumental in our decision to come down to Brooklyn in the first place. We used to live in Hartford, CT and he invited us to play couple of shows with Percussion Lab and back when we had a project called Landau Orchestra. One being an epic roof top party in Bushwick and the other being a support slot for Flying Lotus for the Reset EP release party. Those two parties combined with BAP Lab and an invite from Machinedrum to play one of the first Cassette NYC shows was enough for us to know we should live in BK.

3. Best gig you have ever played was in…

There’s been a couple -

The Mill at Trinity College – although it sounded atrocious in there, kids were screaming and freaking out from the very first note and the energy didn’t let up until we ended 45 minutes later. It escalated to crowd surfing halfway in.. that was a first for us. Commodore Ballroom w/ Sia in Vancouver – Canadians just really know how to cut loose at shows. They even do this for the support act, cheers Canada!!!

Last week at Glasslands – the best Brooklyn crowd we’ve ever got to play for. Everyone packed it in and put their hands up, it was great times.

4. Who are you guys listening to right now?

Ram, Gal Costa, Barbara Mason, Harry Belafonte, Cults, Idiot Glee, Little Dragon, Junior Boys, Deerhoof (Deerhoof vs Evil), Brandt Brauer Frick (You Make Me Real), Herbie Hancock (Sunlight), Lots of NYC radio – Hot 97, CBS 101.

5. Let’s face it, Miami isn’t quite up there with bigger cities like New York or Los Angeles (as far as the “scene” goes)… what advice, if any, do you have for us as far as making things bigger and better for the future?

Angelica: Wear more glow in the dark bikinis
