We hope you’ve already found out about Midnight Magic playing at Scaramouche tomorrow night (Saturday May 4th), if you haven’t – it’s true. Scaramouche is not a reference to the Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” it’s a tribute to the disco hay days in Miami. In the late 70s and early 80s, the disco craze and emergence of contemporary club culture manifested itself in the Omni Hotel just north of Downtown Miami. The name of the party was Scaramouche, hosted by local legend Bo Crane and commandeered by resident DJ, Joe Lenders. This members only affair hosted some of the biggest names in the disco scene and set the pace for Miami nightlife as a clubland mecca.
With a firm grasp on the roots of dance music and its legacy, along with a keen sense for emerging talent, Nightdrive Miami is bringing back the spirit of the discotheque… And Midnight Magic (one of our favorite disco outfits) is headlining the night. Dude Skywalker will also be performing their live debut alongside DJS Stravinsky, Ess & Emm, Laura of Miami, and Patrick Walsh. Check out our interview with the NY boogie band below and DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW! … MORE
Nightdrive Miami and Fordistas XII have been silently working on this very exciting project for the past couple months and now is the time to officially divulge what we’ve been up to.
One of the best parts about being in South Florida is the tremendous cultural momentum we’re experiencing, not only in the visual and performing arts, but in music as well. So naturally when new and innovative producers and musicians come along with strong Miami roots, we feel obligated to showcase Miami’s emerging talent. With that said, it’s our pleasure to introduce to you Dude Skywalker, three Miami locals and best friends with a passion for dance music- specifically disco and house. We asked the ‘Dudes’ to give us a new and exclusive track, and Feel Good appeared in our inboxes shortly thereafter. We then asked five other locals to remix the single, providing us a broad sampling of the dance music scene bubbling up from the underground here in South Florida. You can download all six tracks exclusively at Fordistas.com for free (see link after track players). … MORE
We’re overdue for a follow-up with one of our favorite emerging local producers, Dude Skywalker. The boys recently sent me their new remix and I must admit, my eyebrows were instantly raised upon seeing ‘Pink Floyd’ in the title. I thought to myself, “This could be really good, or really horrible.” … MORE
The local music scene in Miami has grown exponentially in the last year. We’ve had an influx of highly talented producers and musicians ranging from disco, to house, boogie, lo-fi, electronic and indie. We realize a top ten list is a bit limiting so we’ve decided to stick with the genres that most fit the Nightdrive vibe, sorry if we’ve left anyone out. Here are some of our favorite local original productions of 2012: … MORE
We LOVE introducing new tracks to the blogsphere via Nightdrive especially if they’re by local masterminds. Fabio, Sam, and Alex a.k.a. Dude Skywalker are at it again with a brand spankin’ new remix of Randy Crawford’s “Street Life”. Last time they wowed us with their original production “To The Floor” which you can grab off of our previous D.S. post. According to the guys this one is a bit more upbeat and dance floor-ready. … MORE
If there were some kind of music Olympics Miami producers would be winning all sorts of gold medals. Get ready for new comers Dude Skywalker, I see great things coming from the local day disco trio in the near future. Enjoy their debut track “To the Floor” for now … MORE
