Venice Beach

We’re really excited to announce that we’ll be hosting some very special guests next month for our Scaramouche party at Villa 221. Laura first blogged about Venice Beach last September and since then the Parisian duo has really solidified their fresh grooves. Their latest Edits Vol.2 release is an absolute pleasure that you can purchase HERE. They’ll be hitting the decks for Scaramouche on October 13th right after Art Walk. … MORE

Rayko

It’s been a while since we’ve actually posted about Rayko, even though we’ve mentioned him numerous times and he produces some of the best edits out there.  This guy is an edit machine.  If you visit his Soundcloud, you’ll see an endless stream of rarities given his magic touch-up.  That’s why we’re super excited to host him all the way from Madrid, Spain on Thursday (tomorrow) for our blog re-launch party at The Electric Pickle … MORE

Mim Suleiman & Maurice Fulton

Maurice Fulton has teamed up once again with Tanzanian vocalist Mim Suleiman to give us a powerful album titled Umbeya off his Bubbletease Communications label.  Originally bringing her talents to the rest in the world back in 2010 with some 12″s on Runningback, Umbeya is now the second Fulton-produced full-length.  The eclectic “world” rhythms of this album combined with punchy synths and Fulton’s contemporary production stylings makes this funky album something truly unique. … MORE

Clap Rules

The Italian trio, Clap Rules, are back with a four-track EP.  Nothing but analog grooviness once again.  The title track Happynomony is a quirky house tune with ample use of that signature vocoder.  The other tracks are mid-slow jams that’ll have your head- followed by your body-  moving to the beat.  Their last full-length, Golden Hands, which I reviewed last year was one of my favorites of 2011.  I can now rest in confidence that Clap Rules are here to stay and won’t disappoint.

Patrick’s Edit-astic Voyage Mix

I decided to put together my collection of smoother disco originals and favorite re-edits for a casual half hour mix. It starts off with more soulful and mid-tempo beats and ending with some electro-funky jams.  Some of these have been featured here on the blog, but there definitely some new gems in here.  Feel free to download it for you iPod, might make that Dolphin Expressway a little bit more tolerable.

Ruben & Ra

Well we’re getting ready for the Tiger & Woods show here in Miami on October 1st at The Electric Pickle, so I’m particularly in a re-edit mood (when am I not?).  Ruben & Ra have even been referred to as “Britain’s answer to Tiger & Woods.”  These guys are best know for their Retrospective series of releases (retro001, retro002, retro003 feat. Rayko) which primarily sample or re-edit classic electrofunk/boogie tracks like I Can’t Wait by Nu Shooz or Mr. DJ by The Concept and add a contemporary and punchier flair.  Edits have been around for a while but artists are constantly reinventing this art.  We have for you a sneak peak at the brand spanking new Retro004 that’s set to be released October 24th.  Here’s how they describe the release:

Dedicating the A-side to the golden era of stateside electro, ‘Street Dance’ lifts samples from Break Machine’s East Coast anthem ‘Street Dance’, while ‘Moving On’ pays homage to the Californian soul of Ollie & Jerry’s iconic ‘There’s No Stoppin Us’ from ‘84.Over on the flip, the Sun is shining brightly with two poolside jams in the form of ‘Do You Need My Love?’ and the EP’s secret weapon ‘Island Living’.
