Dude Skywalker – “Feel Good” EP

Nightdrive Miami and Fordistas XII have been silently working on this very exciting project for the past couple months and now is the time to officially divulge what we’ve been up to.

One of the best parts about being in South Florida is the tremendous cultural momentum we’re experiencing, not only in the visual and performing arts, but in music as well. So naturally when new and innovative producers and musicians come along with strong Miami roots, we feel obligated to showcase Miami’s emerging talent. With that said, it’s our pleasure to introduce to you Dude Skywalker, three Miami locals and best friends with a passion for dance music- specifically disco and house. We asked the ‘Dudes’ to give us a new and exclusive track, and Feel Good appeared in our inboxes shortly thereafter. We then asked five other locals to remix the single, providing us a broad sampling of the dance music scene bubbling up from the underground here in South Florida. You can download all six tracks exclusively at Fordistas.com for free (see link after track players). … MORE

Edward Crowell II

I met Edward Crowell II in passing a while ago, exchanged a few words and I often see him out and about here in Miami. Originally from Alabama and residing in Miami via LA, he’s is an accomplished visual artist and painter, though that really isn’t my world. What caught my attention was his music. … MORE

Laura of Miami: Marblemusic

I’ve learned a thing or two about marble in the last couple of years and have been fascinated with the veins and color patterns found in natural stone. There’s a not that much of a parallel between my recent mixes and their marble references other than nature’s careful calculations and those of my song selection, progression, and phrasing. There also might be a aesthetic connection between the physical patterns and audio wave forms. I’m posting these because Vamos a La Playa is on hiatus and I just had to share a slew of tracks I loved mixing together. … MORE

RZZLR

We’ve been meaning to post about RZZLR for a while but the truth is the longer we waited the more cool stuff showed up on his Soundcloud page. RZZLR is a Miami based producer/ remixer and a hell of a nice guy. He has a natural knack at repurposing classic hip-hop tracks and 90s jamz into tropical house, nu disco, and indie dance extravaganzas. … MORE

Sumsun

It’s been a while since we heard from local West Palm Beach producer Judson Rogers, aka Sumsun, but he’s been hard at work putting out some quality electronic beats. His latest single New Piano is a beautifully lush soundscape set to a smooth house beat and handclaps. Synths ebb and flow like the ocean until about 1:48 when the mood get a bit darker and dissonant. … MORE

Patrick’s Top Ten of 2012

It’s been a great year for Nightdrive and for me personally. There really is so much music to sift through but I’ve compiled a list of my favs from the past year that I found particularly interesting, effective in the club, or just inspiring during those private bedroom jam session. I’d like to thank all these artists for their dedication toward their art and for creating for us these gifts that we can enjoy as long as our ears work. It was hard enough to whittle it down to ten songs, so these are in no particular order. On to 2013!

Ten Best Local Tracks of 2012

The local music scene in Miami has grown exponentially in the last year. We’ve had an influx of highly talented producers and musicians ranging from disco, to house, boogie, lo-fi, electronic and indie. We realize a top ten list is a bit limiting so we’ve decided to stick with the genres that most fit the Nightdrive vibe, sorry if we’ve left anyone out. Here are some of our favorite local original productions of 2012: … MORE
