Anna Calvi

If you have yet to be captivated by Anna Calvi’s moody Patti Smith-like vocals and sultry cinematic inspired sound get to it! The London-based singer/songwriter released her self-titled, ten track debut album in early 2011 (Domino Records), composed using vintage analogue equipment. Her passion exudes through close-up lips to mic performances—sexually charged lyrics are accompanied by a haunting gaze that’s commanding, confident, and seductive. Her influences include musicians Nick Cave, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt, Claude Debussy, along with filmmakers Wong Kar-Wai, David Lynch and Wes Anderson. Dramatic indeed, and rightfully so.
