I was pleasantly surprised to find out one of my favorite singers would be performing in Madrid while I was there. I was even more surprised and elated to know super sexy Charlotte Gainsbourg would be accompanied by Connan Mockasin instead of him opening up for her. The show was at the Teatro Circo Price not far from the Reina Sofia museum which held a good couple thousand of people. The crowd seemed cheery despite being there at the same time as the Spain vs Portugal game – Spain won the game that night making everything that much more pleasant. … MORE
I’m really excited about this week’s set list for Radio Nightdrive, which of course is every Thursday 2-4 PM EST! We have a great mix of dance tracks, experimental, even some surf… After a very successful scouring of the internets, I’m bringing a slew of brand new tracks as well as some older “classics.” As many of you know, I’m partial to those re-edits so I slipped in more than a couple. Enjoy!
I’ve been rockin’ this guy’s shit at the club for a while now. In the world of re-edits, Elijah Collins produces some of the most dance-provoking and accessible bangers for those who get off on a heavy dose of nostalgia. Whether collaborating with producers Tee J and Nist or remixing the likes of Markas, Collins is masterful at creating a signature BIG sound with dynamic tracks the never fails to rile up a dance floor. … MORE
Maurice Fulton has teamed up once again with Tanzanian vocalist Mim Suleiman to give us a powerful album titled Umbeya off his Bubbletease Communications label. Originally bringing her talents to the rest in the world back in 2010 with some 12″s on Runningback, Umbeya is now the second Fulton-produced full-length. The eclectic “world” rhythms of this album combined with punchy synths and Fulton’s contemporary production stylings makes this funky album something truly unique. … MORE
305 tropiboys Kairo & Josh aka Chalk. are pumping out tracks like there’s no tomorrow. The Chalk. promos I receive from their home town label Dubporn Records are always a rad genre-bending amalgamation of samples and sounds. I’m glad this is all coming out of Miami. … MORE
Here we go again with another episode of Radio Nightdrive, every Thursday 2-4 PM. It’s my last week alone in the studio as I patiently await the return of my co-host, Laura. Got two hours of goodness for you with some pleasant surprises no doubt. Enjoy!
I love when people introduce me to new music especially when it’s something I wouldn’t normally find on my own. I heard Boy for the first time last week in Barcelona and they came very recommended by a great friend. Valeska Steiner & Sonja Glass (Hamburg, Zurich, Sc) are absolutely adorable and gorgeous, their music is as pleasant as their looks. Upon some research I discovered they’re label mates with Fujiya & Miyagi, Gang of Four, and Metric – all part of the Groenland Records fam. Yes, their last album Mutual Friends came out in 2011 but it’s still worth a post on this here blog. … MORE
Italian musician and producer Matteo Tulli brings to us Death In Paris 1983. You can expect a vintage house sound, disco filters, acoustics and even his own vocal samples which he believes adds “something natural and pure” to the sound. His first EP Aquarel was released in May 2011 and more recently Filter Disco vol. I was released just this month which is essentially a collection of sweet loops. Tulli has recently worked on musical projects with O Groove Records and Electiquearts admitting he “soaks up music like a sponge” and enjoys sharing what he makes of it with his listeners.
A few months ago I heard one of the Ultra Music Festival organizers comment that European festivals were way ahead of the curve as far as production value and organization. Having studied festival production/ live entertainment management for the last few years and working in concert production compelled me to check out the differences for myself. I’ve been hearing about Sonar for a while now and felt like this might be the right time to check a Eurofest out. The UMF guy was absolutely correct, they have the right idea here in Barcelona. … MORE
