Salvatore Cusato AKA Casco passed away early this week leaving a fan base of Italo heads in dismay. Truth is there hasn’t been much press about his death on this side of the world. Word on the street is that he was ill for the last few months. Casco is credited as one of the O.G.s of Italo Disco, he produced music under so many monikers (Casco, DJ Discoking, Dr. Acid, Interstellar, etc) it’s almost hard to keep track of it all. The guy’s stuff was grade A Italo and very different from the wanna-be American Euro-pop of the time. I’ve even heard some compare him to Giorgio Moroder (more of a contemporary to me but still very important). The sad part is he was still DJing up till a few months ago and was always very connected and receptive to his fans. Here’s a great eulogy type article written by one of his friends.
